Three teenagers arrested over Wythenshawe robberies

Three teenagers have been arrested in connection with two robberies in Wythenshawe in which victims were allegedly threatened with a knife.

The alleged victims were a Metrolink construction worker and a woman.

At 2.20pm on Thursday 15 August 2013, 46-year–old man was working on the building site of the Metrolink on Hollyhedge Road, Benchill when he was approached by two men.

He got out of his digger before he was allegedly threatened by one of them with a knife.

Police say one of them grabbed a Stihl saw and both ran off towards Hollyhedge Road.

Three people, aged 13 to 15, have been arrested on suspicion of robbery and have been bailed until 11 September 2013 pending further inquiries.

Detective Constable Andy Bromley from Wythenshawe INPT said: “Although arrests have been made, we are still appealing for witnesses to come forward. If you were in or around the area at the time and saw something suspicious, I would ask you to contact us.

“We also believe a robbery that happened on the same day at around 5.30pm on Wendon Road may be linked. In this case, a woman was approached from behind and had her necklace stolen from around her neck.

“Anyone with information on both of these cases should phone police on 0161 856 4882 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.”
