Man and woman held and weapons seized after police swoop in Wythenshawe
Two people have been arrested after police swooped on a house in Wythenshawe and seized a huge arsenal of weapons.
A 44-year-old and and a woman, aged 37, were arrested in Bronington Close in Sharston, in the raid led by detectives from Titan – the North West Regional Organised Crime Unit.
Titan detectives, aided by officers from Greater Manchester Police, found a self-loading pistol, torches modified to fire bullets, almost 100 rounds of ammunition, a stun gun and several other weapons at the Wythenshawe house.
Police also swooped on a property in Liverpool, arresting two 44-year-old men as part of the same operation in an investigation into firearms offences committed across the North West.
All four are currently in police custody.
At the Liverpool property detectives found cannabis and white powder believed to be mixing agent for Class A drugs.
A further search at a storage facility in Stockport, Greater Manchester led to the seizure of several hundred rounds of ammunition for a rifle and the recover of a large knife.
Computers and mobile phones found at the addresses were also seized.
All the items will be forensically examined by experts as part of the Titan investigation.
Detective Superintendent Jason Hudson, Titan’s head of operations, said: “This is excellent work by Titan officers and our colleagues in Manchester and Merseyside.
“A large number of dangerous weapons have been taken out of circulation so that they cannot cause further harm in our communities.
“The search warrants were executed early on Wednesday morning as part of an investigation into serious organised crime and firearms offences.
“We remain committed to tackling criminals involved in drugs and firearms offences by dismantling their hierarchies and putting those involved before the courts.
“I would urge decent, law-abiding members of the community who have information about criminality where they live to share that information with their local police force or Crimestoppers so that positive action can be taken.”
