Police appeal after mugger strikes at Wythenshawe Hospital

Police are appealing for help after a woman had her finger broken during a vicious robbery in the car park at Wythenshawe Hospital.

The 53-year-old woman was getting into her car at the University Hospital of South Manchester on March 3 at about 6.30pm when a teenager opened the passenger door and grabbed her handbag.

The victim held on to her bag, only to be punched several times in the head before the offender wrenched it from her hand, breaking and dislocating her finger.

The offender then ran off down Clay Lane in the direction of Wastdale Road. He is white, in his mid-teens, and wore a light grey hooded top made of thick material.

Detective Constable Rory Leicester said: “We are appealing for anyone that thinks they may have seen this man running away from the hospital grounds at the time of the incident.

“The offender had no regard for the victim, who put up a brave fight, but has suffered severe injuries to her hand and considerable distress as a result of the attack.

“Someone may well have been sold or given some store vouchers from the bag, which was beige with large flowers on the side. If you have any information, no matter how insignificant it seems, please call us.”

Anyone with information should call police on 0161 856 4882 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
