Wythenshawe cops seize nearly half a million pounds worth of drugs in raids

Police in South Manchester have  seized more than £450,000 worth of cocaine, cash and weapons after making swoops in Wythenshawe over three days.

Between Tuesday 8 September, Wednesday 9 September and Monday 14 September 2015 – officers from the Challenger Manchester team executed a number of warrants in Woodhouse Park, Northenden and Poundswick.

Police seized a number ammunition, a stun gun, large quantities of cash as well as cocaine.

A 59-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply and has since been charged and remanded into custody. Two 22-year-old men were arrested on suspicion of possessing controlled drugs and money laundering and have been bailed pending further enquiries.

A 47-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm ammunition, possession with intent to supply class A drugs, possession of a S5 firearm and money laundering.  He remains in custody for questioning.

Working closely with partner agencies, the warrants were executed by the Challenger Manchester team as part of Project Lock which is the overarching response to a number of serious incidents in the Wythenshawe area.

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Cunliffe of GMP’s South Manchester Division said: “We take matter of organised crime extremely seriously and I hope these warrants will assure the public that we are willing to act on community intelligence to tackle this sort of criminality.

“I think this is a very positive result for the communities of South Manchester as we have taken a significant amount of drugs and dangerous items off the streets of Wythenshawe.

“The work of the Challenger Manchester team continues and I hope the public will continue to offer their great support and help us keep South Manchester a safe place to live and work.”
