A police officer was stabbed just inside Westminster Palace Gate, and at least one woman has died and others seriously injured after a car ploughed into people on Westminster Bridge.

Labour’s Mike Kane was in the House of Commons chamber which was put in lockdown as the incident was dealt with by police.

Mr Kane told the Wythenshawe Reporter: “The victims are in my thoughts and prayers”.

The BBC has reported that the Metropolitan Police are treating the attacks as a terrorist incident. At least 10 people have been treated by the London Ambulance Service.

The attacker was shot by armed police.

The Prime Minister was in Parliament when the incident unfolded but was later in Downing Street and will be chairing a meeting of the government’s emergency Cobra committee this evening.

In a statement from Jeremy Corbyn, the Labour leader praised police and security staff for their swift action. He said: “Reports suggest the ongoing incident in Westminster this afternoon is extremely serious.

“Our thoughts are with the victims of this horrific attack, their families and friends. The police and security staff have taken swift action to ensure the safety of the public, MPs and staff, and we are grateful to them.”
